What does a disco dinosaur, the World’s smallest flamingo, a campfire site, and a bunch of suitcases have in common? They’re all part of the Family Museum’s brand-new permanent exhibit!
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, “On the Road” opens to the public. The exhibit takes visitors on a cross-country adventure exploring U.S. geography, ecology, history, and culture through collaborative play as young adventure-seekers trek along and map out their own journeys.
“I am incredibly proud of the Family Museum team and all the creativity, dedication, hard work, and passion that brought this project to life,” said Kim Kidwell, Family Museum Director.
Designed and fabricated by KidZibits, Inc., “On the Road” is a permanent exhibit located in a 2,500 square foot space that was once used for traveling exhibits and is included with admission. The $985,774 project was paid for by the City of Bettendorf, local and private foundations, and generous donors and sponsors.
“This exhibit is a culmination of five years of collaborative community partnerships, high-level thought about the importance of purposeful play in early childhood development, and generous donors and supporters,” said Kidwell. “I can’t wait to see children explore ‘On the Road,’ which is packed with interactive fun! Plus, there are a few hidden surprises designed to entertain adults too!”
